Biggus McChinnus

I'm Biggus McChinnus. I'm a mission runner, small time PvPer and Minmatar Role Player. I'm currently a member of The Wild Bunch [-WB-], which is a part of Electus Matari [-EM-]. I started playing in early 2008 with a different character (who's actually been a contributor to this site), but recently decided to start from scratch in 2010. Moving on from the Raven and AFK Dominix, I play missions for fun, not for ISK.

Mission Running

I currently run missions for Republic Fleet (Minmatar Republic) and Thukker Mix (Thukker Tribe). Although I have the standings to run Level 4 missions with the Republic Fleet, I find Level 3 missions more fun to run solo. There's also the issue that I don't have a ship that can run Level 4 missions solo yet! That said, I often run Level 4 missions with my corporation, with 2 - 4 ships working together; we do it more for the social aspect than for the ISK.

Wolf

When missioning, I fly a Wolf fitted with Artillery. I tried AutoCannon, but I struggled when coming up against Elite Frigates with webs; I'd end up being orbited at 10km, unable to catch up with them, which is well outside the effective range of AutoCannon. With 250mm Artillery, I try to orbit the enemy at 7.5 - 12.5km with an Afterburner on or off, depending on the target(s).

Initially, I used a Medium Shield Extender, coupled with a Purger and Anti-Explosive resist rig to give me a buffer and passive recharge. This worked well for Level 2 missions, but was unsuitable for Level 3 missions, due to the increased DPS. I, therefore, switched to using a Small Shield Booster and pulsing it as I took damage, while replacing the Purger rig for an Anti-Kinetic resist one.

The two fits are shown below, in a format that will allow for copying and pasting into EFT:

Wolf - Artillery + Medium Shield Extender

I used this fit for Level 2 missions, mainly from Republic Fleet, against Angel Cartel, hence the Anti-Explosive rig instead of an Anti-Kinetic rig.

The MAPC is necessary to provide the PowerGrid needed to fit both the MSE and the 250mm Artillery.

Given my skills at the time, the Meta3 or 4 MSE was required due to CPU constraints.

The Meta2 1MN Afterburner was fitted, simply because I'd picked it up off a wreck on a mission and it was superior to the Tech1 version.

Finally, I would switch ammo types depending on the enemy I came up against, e.g. Fusion against Angel Cartel, EMP against Blood Raiders and PP against Serpentis. See below for recommended ammo types vs. rats

Wolf - Artillery + Small Shield Booster

I use this fit for Level 3 missions and assisting corpmates on Level 4 missions. It is now rigged with Anti-Kinetic and Anti-Explosive resist rigs, partly because I lack the PG to fit damage rigs and partly because the percentage of missions vs. Serpentis seems higher among Level 3 missions than Level 2.

The Gistii B-Type Small Shield Booster cost ~40 mil, but was well necessary it due to the significantly lower cap use and higher shield boost.

The Gistii B-Type 1MN Afterburner cost ~15 mil and increased my speed by 12.6%, which allows me to tank better and get within range of distant targets faster, though it's not essential.

The fit is not cap stable, unless you have all cap related skills to Level 5, but you should only ever need to pulse the SSB. Keeping your speed up should reduce and/or nullify most of the incoming damage.

Level 3 Missions

Below is a list of the Level 3 missions I've been able to successfully run in a Wolf, along with notes and tips to take into consideration. There is also a list of missions I've been unable to run, either because I've attempted them and failed, resulting in me having to call in backup or cancel the mission, or because the report here on EVE-Survival has put me off!

Successful Missions

Angel Extravaganza (Angel Cartel Small Shield Booster variant; Fusion S for Angel Cartel. In my opinion, the most fun mission in the game. Be sure to manage triggers, else you'll end up overwhelmed. Watch out for destroyer heavy spawns and any elite frigates (web/scram). The sentries in Pockets 2 and 4 can be a pain; more so in Pocket 4 than Pocket 2. Spider Drones in Pocket 5 can be annoying too, but not impossible. Never tried the bonus room; 6 elite frigates scare me!

Eliminate the Pirate Campers (Angel Cartel) Small Shield Booster variant; Fusion S for Angel Cartel. The Destroyers might hurt a bit until you kill a few of them off, but, after that, the mission's easy as pie!

Silence the Informant (Mercenaries/Rogue Drones) Small Shield Booster variant; EMP S for Rogue Drones and Mercenaries. First pocket is trivial. Mercenary Wingmen (web/scram) and missile spam can be problematic in the second pocket. Keep up speed and primary the Wingmen. The sentries in the third pocket may hurt a bit, but keep up speed and you should be fine.

Blitzed Missions

Deadly Arrival (Caldari/Amarr) Either variant. Stasis Tower will make speed tanking impossible and the sentries will hit you hard. To "Blitz", approach the structure and then warp out as soon as the first wave spawns.

The Missing Convoy (Rogue Drones) Small Shield Booster varient; EMP S. Orbit the EM forcefield, shooting it till it goes down, then shoot the lesser drone hive, scoop the objective and warp away.

Unsuccessful Missions

Break Their Will (Serpentis) The Repair station has a LOT more HP than in the Level 1 and 2 variants and the Stasis Tower will make speed tanking impossible. Don't even think about trying this mission solo, in a Wolf.
