You are given the choice between two gates:Gate to Acidic Cloud (18km)

When approaching either of the acceleration gates a popup message explains what you have to expect in the area they lead into.
Pocket 1a (Acidic Cloud):
Empty pocket, no spawn.Ship receives damage of unknown type every second.
Area deals enough damage to reduce my Rattlesnake's almost perfect passive tank (I have T1 Defense Field Purgers instead of T2, and level 4 in the shield compensation skills) to 56% (stable) by the time I fly to the next gate.
Gate to Pirate Base ~ 40k away.
Gate to Entrance ~ 6k away.
Pocket 1b (Patrol Area):
Group 1 (Automatic aggro)
Distance: (somewhere around 20)1x Frigates (Mercenary Wingman) web & scramble
3x Cruisers (Mercenary Commander / Mercenary Lieutenant)

Loot: About 1200 m³ before cap booster charges and metal scraps.
Standing increase is excellent with this storyline mission.
Note:
This being a typical mercenary mission, all NPCs will close to a range of 15k or less, similar to Damsel in Distress 4 . If you can handle the DPS and deal good DPS this is very easy and quick (10 minutes) to finish.

Just over 2k m3 loot with about 800 of than in cap boosters and scraps.
I got a 9.375% standing increase with Minmatar.
For the rest of us, my decent Apoc could NOT come close to tanking the cloud damage. In the Patrol room, it was a lot easier for me when I killed the frigs and then the BSs (leaving the cruisers for last). Still had to warp out once; the incoming damage with 2x Therm and 2x Kin armor hardeners was pretty high at close range until you take out some BSs.
After getting the hostages I tried the acidic cloud for fun, with resists of 72.4 EM, 74.1 Expl, 72.8 Kin, 68.95 Therm. Damage was a bit too much for that tank - no problem short-term but flying 33 km without AB under these conditions is risky.
Standing gain was WOW. If you know what you're doing this should be a good deal :)
with armor resists of 74, 66, 66, 52%, i took 72+52+52+40 damage per second.
if you can tank the cloud, then you drop near a structure which can be looted directly like a cargo pod, without needing to engage the hostiles in the 2nd pocket.
